Children 6-10

During the elementary school years, kids are entering an entirely new world of relationships, pressures and expectations. At this stage, they are searching for freedom while still relying on support, encouragement, and advice.

The right kind of parental support can be the anchor your child needs to explore new interests and learn valuable skills, while avoiding peer pressure. A parent can offer a safe place for children to explore and share the challenges they face.

As children start to seek independence, parenting changes.  Parents, particularly when they are experiencing their own pressures, may find it hard to keep parenting positively and to find energy and time for their children. The Alternatives for Families program helps families learn to work as a team, build parenting skills, and discover healthier ways to communicate with each other. Alternatives for Families is provided through a partnership with Bethany Christian Services.
